Plein Air Painting
Accurately Capturing Your Perceptions From Life

This course will cover elements 1and 2 of the 4 elements of quality art: Value and Color

There is no substitute for painting from life. This workshop will focus on the elements of art that can be best learned on location - Value and Color. Demonstrations and in-depth instruction will improve your observation skills and your ability to get valuable information onto your canvas in an organized, well designed and efficient way. The workshop will be held in the St. George area and in the spectacular Zion National Park. Please join us for 3 days of valuable painting instruction, warm weather and breath-taking vistas.

Class format will include:
• lectures
• Black & white and color exercises
• variety of subject matter and light conditions, including painting at night
• painting demonstrations
• learn how to observe without bias
• art critique sessions

Class open to all ability levels, however, some painting experience will be helpful.

Fee: $450.00. Fee includes the Zion National Park Fee. Fee does not include lodging or food.
A $200 deposit will reserve your space. Remaining balance due by August 14.
The deposit and cancellations after September 18th are non-refunable but may be applied to future workshops.

Class enrollment will be limited to 15 people to ensure personal instruction.

Notebook/pen
Brushes – Bristle Flats: 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, 1 inch
Oil Paint (minimum)– Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow light, Cadmium Red Light, French Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black (Bring other colors with which you are comfortable)
Canvas panels, canvas glued to board or gessoed board – 4 each - 6" X 8", 8"x 10", or 9"x12" for a total of 12 surfaces
Solvent and container
Paper Towels
Portable Easle/Pallet
Pallet Knife
Sunscreen
Umbrella (Optional)

Jacket
Inexpensive, small, bright headlamp (camping supply stores carry them)
