I am trying to establish major shapes, values and a color that may show through as
an undertone
Design to get to get a light value, a dark value
and a sharp edge
in the same area to define the focal point of the painting. Establish this as soon
as you can
in order to have something with which to judge the other areas of the painting.
No other area of the painting should be as dramatic as the focal point.
Keep the value masses of the painting simple and well defined.
